Kate Winslet and Family Escape Fire at Richard Branson’s Caribbean Home

Monday, August 22, 2011

Kate Winslet and her children were among the guests who escaped a fire at billionaire Richard Branson’s home on his private Caribbean island.

The actress was staying at the Great House on Necker Island when a huge blaze broke out at approximately 4:00 a.m. today.
The fire is believed to be a result of severe conditions related to Tropical Storm Irene, which has been hammering the Virgin Islands.

“Kate Winslet, her boyfriend and her family were there and [my daughter] Holly and some of her friends were also staying,” said Branson, who was staying at a different residence on the island.

“My mother was there and they managed to get her out and she is fine,” he added. “Many thanks to Kate Winslet for helping to carry my 90 year mum out of the main house to safety.”

No one was hurt, fortunately, although Branson says the house is “completely destroyed.”
