Torrent sites have been just now blocked by DOT. This might be due to piracy issues caused by these websites. Last year DOT had blocked file uploading websites like filesonic, etc. However these websites were shortly unblocked. Time will only inform whether this is a everlasting blocking or not.
Not each and every one torrent site have been blocked. Sites like Vertor, Fenopy, etc still stay unblocked. The exciting thing is Torrentz. Torrentz was redirecting .com to .eu and someway DOT has blocked only .com and not .eu, so users can still surf torrentz on its .eu domain i.e. http://www.torrentz.eu
According to me piracy cannot be congested, though it can be reduced but blocking these sites is not the remedy. Now users will use proxies to get past this blocking barrier and still download stuff. You require to block the uploaders since they are the one causing piracy. Users who in fact use torrentz to share files which are lawful will not be able to do that any longer. DOT needs to think about these issues.
Cause For Blocking
Reliance Entertainment was forthcoming with a movie release and so it got permission from High Court to block Torrent sites.
